Overview
Since our last newsletter we have completed Chapters 3 and 4 (airfield and building area design) of the Master Plans for both RHV and E16 (South County) airports. With the Board of Supervisors approval last fall, we are now developing the rest of the plans. We are working hard with our consultants, Mead and Hunt and BAE, to develop the final chapters of these two plans including the Business Plan and Environmental Scoping portions. We anticipate taking Chapters 3 and 4 of the PAO Master Plan to the public for comment sometime later this spring. Hopefully we are successful in getting FAA grant funding soon, so we can complete the necessary environmental review of each of the plans within the next year or two.

Palo Alto
The city of Palo Alto completed a project in November to replace an inadequate fire main along the access road from the golf course out to the FAA Control Tower. With this project completed, we are working with our County Engineers to finalize the design and obtain bids on the rehabilitation of the access road leading to the tower. An automatic access gate will be installed as part of this project. One of the benefits of the successful Airport Day held by the PAAA is their ability fo fund the purchase of GATS fuel sampling jars for all tenants of the airport. This very generous offer from the Airport Association will help to reduce air, water and ground contamination from aircraft fuel samples.

Reid Hillview
We finally (after two years of waiting) received our record of decision from the FAA on our FAR 150 Noise Compatibility Program. We didn't get everything we asked for but we did get the green light "from the tower" and started the takeoff roll to get FAA grant funding for a new Noise Monitoring and Flight Tracking System and other neighborhood noise insulating programs.
See Tech Talk for more about our new Noise Abatement Program.
While we are waiting for those projects to get off the ground, we're on short final for landing (and will be going to bid this spring) for an FAA funded pavement rehabilitation project (and other improvements), with a new perimeter security project taking interval behind it. We will also be repairing the roof and getting new heating and air conditioning units for the Terminal building sometime this spring in preparation for our eventual rehab of the second floor. Keep an eye on our website for additional updates and "NOTAMS" on these projects.

South County
The much anticipated hangar project at South County encountered a few delays last fall, but now has an anticipated completion date of mid April.
We will be contacting prospective tenants in February to begin the hangar selection process. With the completion of the hangar project, we plan to add more staff coverage at the airport, starting with a staff member on site five days a week, and eventually seven days a week when revenues enable the hiring process. We will be starting several other FAA funded projects at South County later this spring which include new fencing, gates, access control systems and an AWOS IIIP automated weather station.
