South County (E16)
In addition to the new hangars and other projects in the Director’s Message, several other improvement projects are still in the design phase at
South County. Among them are several projects intended to enhance airport security, including the installation of fencing and implementation of airspace protection measures. We anticipate construction of these projects to start this summer, along with installation of an AWOS
IIIP at both South County and Palo Alto airports. After the ribbon cutting on the hangars, we will be hosting a Tenant Appreciation Day on May 12 and an Airport Day on May 13. We hope to see a lot of new faces as new tenants start occupying the new hangars, and we encourage everyone to attend.

Palo Alto (PAO)
Several improvement projects have been completed and more are on the way at PAO. Late last year, the levee was reinforced
and raised in order to protect the Airport from flooding, and a section of the Airport next to the City water treatment
plant was excavated to allow for installation of a meter on the sewer line, requiring the temporary relocation of some aircraft. Looking ahead, plans
are underway to upgrade the back access road in order to provide a controlled access point for the fuel farm. And the most exciting
news is the impending arrival of Enterprise Rent-A-Car with cars available on-site. Currently in final negotiations, the plans call
for Enterprise to remodel the terminal, build a rental counter, and relocate the operations office to the other side of the terminal.

Reid Hillview (RHV)
RHV recently had a visit from the FAA’s Runway Safety Action Team, recommending added signage
and repainting asphalt markings to improve pilot safety and reduce runway and taxiway incursions.
Airport staff drafted a plan and received FAA approval (and funding) to put the plan into action,
but when the contractor bids started coming in, it became apparent the current level of funding was
inadequate. Staff went back to the FAA to increase the amount, so the project is on hold pending
additional funds. In addition, the Airport has been busy implementing the County’s new Integrated
Pest Management System ordinance, intended to help protect the environment and minimize workers’
risk of exposure to herbicides and pesticides. The process of changing the herbicides and pesticides
used, doing more weed abatement, and using alternative “green” methods involves a learning curve.
Overall the IPM program may mean using more manpower, but as a result we will need fewer
chemicals that impact the environment.
