Good Housekeeping
As many of our hangar tenants may know, we received an inspection of all County
buildings by the Fire Marshal a few months ago. As a result, a number of code
and License Agreement violations were discovered and now need immediate
attention. This inspection was long overdue, and we appreciate the assistance
in trying to keep the airport environmentally-safe. The more serious problems
involve the storage of unauthorized or excessive amounts of hazardous materials,
the construction and use of paint booths, fiberglass aircraft construction and the
storage of too many flammable materials (household storage and “junk”) in the
hangars. We anticipate another visit from the Fire Marshal to coincide with our
semi-annual hangar inspection sometime in the month of August. We expect most
of the violations to be resolved before that time. With a little help from an old spaghetti western movie title, the photos will
give you a general view of what we refer to as “The Good” hangar (pictured top left), the “The Bad” hangar (pictured bottom left),
and “The Ugly” hangar (picture inappropriate). We encourage all tenants to try and emulate the practices of the occupants
of “The Good” hangar. General good housekeeping habits and attention to the
requirements in the County’s License Agreement should prevent these violations
from occurring in the future.
Chris Nucci and his team are willing to provide
you with free passes to future hazardous waste disposal events in San Jose and
Sunnyvale. We have also arranged with our waste disposal company to provide
extra pickups of trash bins, but please DO NOT place any hazardous waste in
these bins. And, of course, we will still continue to take (County tenants only)
used oil, tires, and batteries during normal operating hours. Just call ahead to
arrange for a drop-off. For more information please contact Chris or another
one of our staff members at (408) 929-2256.
