SUMP FUEL DISPOSAL

Sump Fuel Disposal

You should now notice new sump fuel dumping stations located around the three county airports. These were installed in October, 2005 as part of the county's plan to make the Santa Clara County Airports a more environmentally friendly facility. With these new stations there is no longer a reason to dispose of any fuel by dumping it on the ground. Not only is fuel dumping hazardous to the environment, it is illegal and could result in you being fined by the fire department or the EPA. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the fuel dumping station location nearest you at RHV, PAO or E16.

When these new stations are used in conjunction with Gats jar, you can help reduce the amount of pollution that seeps into the ground and potentially your drinking water.

For more information please take the time to download and watch this 5 minute video put together by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the Florida State Department of Environmental Protection. This 66mb video requires windows media player or the free realPlayer.

In addition to a can for storing waste fuel, these stations have a 45 gallon fuel spill and recover kit along with the tools necessary to help in the cleanup, should you experience a fuel spill yourself.
